Ok, as soon as I saw Ninja of the Deep Hours and the ability Ninjutsu I immedietly thought of one card that totally takes advantage of it. I didn't want to let this cat out of the bag so soon, but I just can't keep it in any longer. But first, a bit more pumping of myself...

To work Ninjutsu, you need the creature to be unblocked, right?
To make it easier to have an unblocked creature, it needs evasion, right?
To ensure that even then they don't block it, it needs to be unnassuming, right?
As Ninjas are in 2 colors, it needs to be easily accessable to both, right?
If I continue this any longer you are going to burn me on the stake, right?

Well, the card that fits this profile is Ornithopter. Lonely little ornithopter, that attacks for 0 damage, flies, and doesn't cost anything. Even after they realize what the Ornithopter does, they might not be able to stop it.

How about that? No deck, no intricate strategy, just flat discussion of a new ability. What do you think?

True, Ornitopter is crazy with Ninjitsu. The flaw it it's vulnerability.

0/2 body is hardly a body at all. Though with a throatslitter it's evil.

But since we're talking blue and black, Fear and F;ying are easily accessible. Heck, screw Ninjutsu, make, for example, a Monoblue Ninja deck with Levitation. Ninjutsu becomes an easier way to play bigger ninjas. heck, throw ornitopter in there because he remains useful in endgame in this case.

Another way to abuse Ninjutsu in attack is like abusing simian grunts in defense.

"You block my Disciple of the Vault? Hop, he's Higure, the still wind. Too bad, your guy's dead."

See what I mean?

Breaking Ninjutsu is indeed fun. I'll have to research on that :P

Ninjitsu only works when the creature is unblocked.

Sorry, my bad.

It's still good with fear and flying.

actually if ninjitsu could work on blocked creatures then it'd be totally broken. let me itterate.

1. attack with guy
2. guy is blocked by defender
3. switch guy with ninja
4. ninja is a new attacker, defender doesnt block him because he is not guy and combat damage has not gone on the stack, thus ninja is now unblockable since blockers have already been declared.
5. ninja deals combat damage to a player.

sooo good :)

My favorite card to use along with ninjitsu is Xantid Swarm. Cheap and unassuming like ornithoptor, also a flyer. Sure it costs a little more and is a tad more vulnerable but its gonna be pretty hard to block even if they wanted to. And as an added bonus when he first swings he cuts off your opponent's ability to play anything, meaning your ninjas can come and wreak their havoc unhindered. Of course, three colors would be perposterous, so I'd recommend only doing U/g or B/g ninjas. But green is a good color to have anyways, since you have accel and creatures that are good to ninjitsu back to hand (viridian shaman, eternal witness, wood elves maybe).

I cried when I got two of those in my Scourge box. But you bring up a good point. Ninjutsu can be evil when that little bugger.....pardon the pun.....when it attacks. Haha, feel the wrath of my Xantid Swarm!

For one Ornithopter doesn't even come close to FULLY taking advantage of Ninutsu. Second, I am ABSOLUTLY certain you weren't the 1st or even the 31st to come up with that idea and yet your pretending like it's your secret tech... fact of the matter is I have secret Ninja tech and I am keeping it secret until I use my deck in a tournament and take people out by suprise 1337 ninja tactics :band: or something...

blue will probly be the way to go and theres one blue card thats already comes to my mind Thalakos Seerhttp://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=Tempest&name=thalakos_seer# (http://)
.... it fits most of whats needed to take advantage of ninjitsu

Yeah, Slivers work good too.

Infestedprobe
01-14-05, 16:27
Ninja Slivers? lol

but Shadow indeed works wonders with Ninjas.

Also, those who want to play Ninjas better watch out for Silent arbiter. That guy pwns Ninjas.

hmm... It also seems we can respond to a kill spell with Ninjutsu(or an anti-ninja rat). That blue Ninja with Ninjutsu U just became more useful :P

problem witht he ornithopter is that who would attack with one unless they had something special to do with it, so they would block and kill it, unless they cant. the 0 man casting cost is nice though

Methinks Ninjas with Double-Strike could wreak total havoc.

I think a B/W Ninja//equipment deck would be fun to try. Auriok Steelshapers and Leonin Shikaris with all kinds of fun equipments like the double-strike one(which I seem to forget the name at the moment). Picture a throatslitter popping out of an ornitopter and then getting double-strike. 2(or 4, unsure) points of damage to the opponent, 2 creatures killed outright. Ninjas even become better with Lightning Greaves, or Whispersilk cloaks perhaps.

Unstable Shapeshifter+Unassuming Creature+Ninja in Hand= Double the ninja.

Of course, it would only work once, opponent's are tricky devils.

Using ornithopter was the first thing that came to every smart magic players head when they saw Ninjitsu. If it took you that long to find out... well um... actually im the only exception, i thought of that too as soon as I saw it but I'm not a smart magic player :)

Patron of the Nezumi works well with Ninjitsu. Black ninja rats, well their converted mana cost is higher, so when you ninjitsu them into play you can sac them to the patron for more than they costed you... eh... its not really worth doing, but I thought it was cool. Throat slitter I beleive is 3BB and 2B to ninjitsu, so you play Patron of the Nezumi on turn 4-5 (with or without excel), 6/6 with a disciple of the everything effect.

well i do believe they are bringing back wil-o the wisp in 9th, and shes a lovely creature, especially when mixed with ninjutsu, and even then shes such a nice blocker for early on

but yah pretty much a nice 1/1 flyer can turn into a pain in your opponents rear
