I, too, must make one of these spam-ridden hell-holes that we all loving refer to as, the Moderator Helpdesks. :D (Really, it's in the job description! :beard: )

So, by now, you all know the routine. Got an issue with me? Want to grovel? Want to just plain spam the hell out of the thread to give me a chuckle?

Go for it!

Well, I can't really endorse the spamming... but the rest is fine! ;)

Eh, the novelty wears off when you've done as much work as I have. :p (MTGS Global, Manatap Admin, MDV Techie, etc.)

Still, it's nice to just be able to continue contributing to News, at any rate.

Anyway, hopefully this helpdesk won't become too intolerably full of spam. Sure glad I'm not contributing to the useless post load. Oh.. wait... :!para:

BTW, I got awarded Equipment Captain for this next season (I tried out for section leader, but didn't make it. Lo and behold, our director surprised three of us at the end with a brand new position. We're ranked same as WW, Brass, Percussion, and Guard Captains too! :))

When the staff wants to bring on new staff or replace retired staff, they will generally make it publicly available, allowing people who think they're qualified to submit an application. The applications are reviewed and the administrators make their choice.

Of course, sometimes the Administrators just choose without accepting applications as well.


So, the story in all of this? Post often and well in the areas of the site you like, and worry more about contributing to the community than becoming a mod sometime down the road. One of these days, if you're suited for the work, the position will come to you. But you have to earn it first.

how does "reputation" work?

because I have just looked at my user cp, and I have some bad reputation from a "what the heck is that thread" on 04-16-04 yet the reputation was only logged on 06-30-06 with the comment "I hate WTHIT".

Could you find out who did this?

If you search for the Reputation thread in Community Cafe, I explain it pretty in-depth.


If you feel someone has made a negative reputation comment that wasn't warranted (as in, their reasoning for doing so was pretty 'meh'), you can PM an administrator and ask them to evaluate it.
