View Full Version : Blood Moon vs. Dwarven Miner Etc;
So the next 8th poll is up: Blood Moon vs. Dwarven Miner. I think that Blood Moon is the clear winner here but maybe I'm wrong. Worship won over Pariah and Kismet. And the new flavor text choice is for Verduran Enchantress. So let's discuss.
EDIT: typos
Yeah, Blood Moon. I love that effect of turning non-basics into basics. Especially if the other side isn't playing red :)
So many possibilities.....blood moon all the way. Besides, destroying a non-basic land isn't that fun....or usuful....unless it's an old one......

Blood moon all the way!:)
Just to be difficult I voted for the Miner - up Dwarves!
Blood Moon is sideboard for red decks facing a non-basic heavy meta. Green + White just shrug off troublesome enchantments, + Blue/Black prefer to be as close to mono as possible, so who is this really gonna hurt? Multicolor decks? They'll have enough hard times when Invasion block rotates.
Dwarven Miner is for DWARF THEME DECKS! *rock* What is he, a 1/2 for 1R...+ also doubles as non-basic land kill. Ok, ok, so Blood Moon /is/ the obvious choice, giving us all the nonbasic hoser we so crave...but, I already voted. Gotta make all those sunnybeach Bloodboilers I've opened good for something. ^_^
blood moon is the more useful card, the miner is just a bland dwarf with non-basic land destruction - he's just too vunerable and slow.
Go Blood Moon! I hope we get some beyotchin new art for it too!

I voted for the Miner, simply because if your opponent is indeed playing non-basic lands, I'd rather blow them up than give them mana of a different color...
Sure, the Dwarf is a 1/2 creature that can be killed in numerous ways, but still, the chance of DENYING the land VS. just giving them a different mana color to use, well, it seems kinda obvious to me...
Don't get me wrong, I almost voted Blood Moon just cause it's cool (LOVE the pic!), but the Miner just seems like a better card.
If nothing else, they have to use a kill card on it VS. another one of your creatures...
I'd have to go with Blood Moon on this one. Go ye olde cards!! :D Seriously, IMO I think it's the better card between the two. If the Dwarf's ability maybe cost 2 mana, I'd vote for him. But 3 mana just to pop a non-basic land is...meh.

Bloodmoon! yay!
finally R&D is reprinting some nonbasic hate for t1 and extended!

Well...meh. I doubt they are gonna have the time to commision new art for the moon....oh well. Anyways, i voted for the moon. I guess its just because its older, and fits well in my odd, "lets see how many ways i can screw a multiplayer game over" deck. The miner is decent, but I guess i've seen replacesments for the miner, such as trench wurm. But the moon really has no replacement (well meh....i guess ruination was...but thats not....nm). But whoever wins, it really wont effect the game much.

This is tough
Blood Moon
For 3 you take away their nonbasic land's abilities and made them only able to make a single mana of a color they might not need.
Most vulnerable to white and green
Useless if by some chance there are no Nbl on the table
Effects you
No other real use

Dwarven Miner
For an initial investment of 2 you get a 1/2 that can blow up nonbasic's for 3.
Most vulnerable to red and black
Has some uses if no Nbl on the table
Only effect you if you want
Can be used in Dwarf decks

Going from this I am going with Dwarven Miner....just has more positives from my view.
(Here is hoping for a dwarf lord in Onslaught!)

I voted blood moon because it seems like it would be more help in a deck.
I went with the Dwarf. Lower manacost is always a plus, as it's easier to sneak under counters. Also, it's useable in a non-monored deck. (I know, so's the Moon, but I hate having to build around my own cards.) I doubt this poll will have a very big impact on t2, but for extended, it just might.
Also, I won't be too sad if the Moon wins out (looks that way.) as it's always cool to see some oldies back.

i voted for the blood moon, it's less vulnerable plus you still have access to your mana instead of having to use 3 for the miner when you want to destroy a land, i love playing with dwarven fun decks though, but the moon just seems to be the better card
Vote for da Dwarven Miner!!! I don't know how you can diss on this Dwarf, he is playable in Type 1!
More Dwarves! Creatures are good. He gives control a huge fit because he can stall their mana on his own. Built-in card advantage here, people.
Expensive? Turn 2 Dwarven Miner; Turn 3 Begin blowing up land, just like Stone Rain. Trench Wurm could go to work by turn 5.
Blood Moon hits you as well, don't you know.
Some of your points are valid, but Blood Moon, if used will go into mostly mono-red deck's (Sligh, etc) sideboard. The only real non-basic's those decks will play are Barbarian Ring and Keldon Necropolis. Since theres only 1 non-basic valid in T2 when 8th actually comes out, its a pretty obvious choice. Perhaps Onslaught will bring a new light to the situation, but you have pick now. As for T1.5 creatures like that are just too vulnerable, period. Enchantments however are harder to get rid, epecially main-deck. Pick the better hoser.

Blood Moon all the way. The Miner is only good in LD, but Blood Moon can fit into straight red burn. Blood Moon just has more options. :bunny:

I vote for the dwarf. I like non-basic lands, and I don't want all mine to be affected along with my opponents. Besides, at least the dwarf can be used for something else.

I voted for Dwarven Miner who is more splashable than the Blood Moon, which affects you as much...
Also since I never play Red Only Decks... there goes my vote for the Miner.

I hated having to choose between two cards that can go in sligh but I voted Blood Moon for it's Disruption and Classic feel.
