The Battle of the Aven: Dervin vs. Dabura
[An Official Battle, to concession. Do you accept?]
At the training field beind Dervin's now destroyed headquarters, the Sergeant stood. He had sent his last trooper with a message for his former superior officer, Dabura. The Sergeant wanted to prove himself in a fight. The Setting: A large open clearing, approximately the size of a football field. Three sides surrounded by forest, the last by a now-ruined building. Scattered around the clearing are a few trees and pillers. |

Lieutenant Dabura landed in the training field, Major Soral beside him. Soral scowled at Dervin, spitting on the ground, "You dare challenge an officer of the Order?!", raged Soral as he drew his aven scythe,"I should run you through here and now!". But the Lieutenant clasped his hand on Soral's shoulders. "Major! Stand your ground. You will return to the Citadel at once until further instructions", shouted Dabura as Soral grumbled. "That is a direct order Major", Dabura said, looking straight into the large aven's eyes. The Major grinned and then bowed. "Yes Lieutenant", he then turned to Dervin, "Consider yourself lucky, traitor!", he bellowed as he swooped back into the air, gliding towards the direction of the Order.
Dabura turned to Dervin and grinned. "Don't mind him, he's a veteran of the Cabal Wars...Such aven warriors always let their tempers out of control..That is not in the Order's best intentions..". Dabura drew his crystal blade, the symbol of Order might and cast a small aven chant, elongating it to battle length, six feet. He then grinned at Dervin. "I trust you still have Teroh's Pike..It would feel right for me to wield Pianna's blade against another relic of the old Order Citadel", muttered Dabura as he awaited Dervin's attack. |

"Unfortunately, no, the pike was destroyed by an enemy." Dervin wouldn't elaborate on how, even if Dabura asked, of course. "But, I do have a feww other things going for me..."
After a few soft words a barely perceptable cloud of mist appeared in front of Dervin. Inside it were twenty or so golden spheres. The cloud headed towards Dabura, slowly gaining momentum. As the mist moved away Dervin drew his sword, the blade from one of his fallen men of the last battle at the Arena of the Damned. |

Dabura growled and the pommel of his blade, Order, began to shine. Squinting at the mist he swooped into the air above it and fired a volley of crystal blasts at the group of golden spheres.

As the crystal blasts were fired Dervin gave a simple command to the spheres. They suddenly weren't spheres at all, but spectral birds. The birds charged up towards Dabura, seemingly ignoring the crystal rain decending on them. About half of them were hit by the crystals and instantly vanished, but the otehrs continued towards Dabura.
Dervin sprung into the air as well, striving to get above Dabura and catch him in a pincer between birds and fighter. |

Dabura swung to the side as the birds charged, attempting to keep them between him and Dervin. He then fired a chain with a spiked weight at the end from his gauntlet, Vice, swinging the chain in a circle around him, ready to smack off any birds nearby.

Indeed, as the birds came close to Dabura, most of them were struck by the chain. A few remained outside the sphere, they didn't charge. Instead, Dervin had decided to act. Taking his sword the aven plunged downward, avoiding the remaining birds and stabbing his sword into the chain's swinging radius. The chain wrapped around the blade as the two remaining birds charged inward again.

Dabura snarled and released the chain, swinging it away and sending it plummeting to the ground. Peeting at the charging birds he released his wings and slowly plummeted to the ground, firing off crystal blasts upward as he fell.

The two birds dove to follow Dabura and blinked out of existance as they were hit by crystal blasts. The chain and sword had become to entangled to be of much use, so Dervin dropped them as he charged downward. A stray crystal blast hit the falling weapons, turning both of them into a pretty, but useless, statue of weapons for a while.
Devin charged downward while gathering mana, and suddenly spread his wings to their full span. The effect was immediate. The aven's downward momentum almost completely vanished. Using the pause Dervin let loose a light blast onto Dabura. The Lieutenant only felt a slightly warm beam of light on his face, but it slowly was growing hotter. |

Dabura finally dropped to the ground angrily as he felt the light beam on him. Spreading out his large wings he flapped them as he remained stationairy, letting loose a whirlwind of dust around him to block Dervin's view as he collected energy from his aven ancestors for his Aura Blast.

Having seen Dabura fight before, Dervin knew what was coming. He also knew that getting hit by it wouldn't exactly be pleasant. The aven cut off the energy to his light beam before it drew too much of his energy away and soared high into the sky. As he did so he summoned two groups of golden spheres in the forest, out of Dabura's view.
The perfect setting for a perfect trap... |

Dabura continued to flap his wings heavily as the whirlwind of dust continued to spread around him. He collected more and more mana into his body until his pupils were blazing balls of pure light and his body began to shudder with energy...But even this would not be enough, though Dabura as he strained against the flow of mana entering him.

As Dabura struggled below Dervin summoned more birds above. On opposite sides of the arena two more groups of spheres were now suspended in the air. On Dervin's command all four groups of birds would awaken and charge at the aven below. All Dervin was waiting for was the whirlwind to stop...

Dabura's eyes swelled and he let out a bellow of power as he felt a grouping of energy around him. Small pairings of them in spheres. Dervin had summoned them there. Dabura grinned, "Splendid". With that he swept up into the air at top speed, his mighty wings carrying him above, careening straight head on towards Dervin as he crackled with energy.

As Dabura shot upward Dervin did the same. The Sergeant headed higher and higher, every once and a while performing a twist or turn to confuse Dabura.
As Dabura headed upward as well he charged toward a large mist cloud, set in place by Dervin as he had begun his upward flight. The eighty birds also came to life, charging towards Dabura from below and both sides. |
