Right on FDM. By far out of those choices Judas Priest is my favourite. Although Maiden and GnR are really great too.

These options are horrible, there is no way you can compare Zappa with for example Tool. I have an extensive list of bands I listen to (approx. +120), and most of them count as my all-time favorites.

Pink Floyd people! Come on, David Gilmour is possibly one of the best guitarists ever, and Roger Waters is one of the best songwriters ever. From a period between 1973 (Dark Side of the Moon) to 1981 (The Wall), all Pink Floyd did was create killer album after album. Also, without the Floyd, it would be a few more years before bands would start to use lightshows. The Floyd were the first man, and they had absolutely the best live shows ever.

I am surprised that the Beatles weren't up there, but meh. Everyone likes the Beatles.

EDIT: Man, you don't even have THE STONES up there? How can you not put Rolling Stones up as one of the best rock groups ever? For shame, for shame.

I think I would have to go with the Grateful Dead, or possibly Tom Waits... delicious both.

I guess it hasn't occurred to everyone that "who is the best band" topics are seldomly actually there to get an actual mutual agreement on what the best band ever actually is. I can't stand Beatles for the stupid reason I've heard them far too many times. I like Pink Floyd, but they're not my favorite. Everyone has got 'their' favorite. The world would work so much easier if we stopped convincing everyone from one another's opinion all the freaking time.

But by any means, please do ignore my post like everyone else and continue your rampage, it's not like I'm not just another new member with an attitude.

That's perfectly alright, but I recommend not to have people 'promoting' 'their' favorite band. It's a matter of taste, after all. I hate it when people go and be like, "Pink Floyd is the absolute best!" or "How can you not-say Beatles! They're the basis for everything!". This is about personal favorites, which then get tossed on a big heap and eventually the most common favorite bandname comes out. Nothing spectacular, but people need to see that first.
