Naya Aggro/Naya Lotus Angel

So there are a lot of potential Naya Aggro builds that are possible. Here are 3 from the most recent SCG $5K-Philadelphia Top 16. These also appear to be the first real implementation of [crd]Lotus Cobra[/card] in teh new Standard.

Similar decks, each with a different twist on the archetype. Some run the Ranger of Eos engine with Scute mob and Wild Nacatl. Knight of the Reliquary, Dauntless Escort and Wooly Thoctar all make an appearance at 3mana. The sideboards all go in very different directions, and even the mana can be acheived in slightly different ways.

its interesting how these seem almost like a hybrid between the powerfull jund decks and the sligh-ish r/w decks. It will be interesting to see how these play out. They seem fast enough to keep up with the faster weenie decks, but might not have enough power to deal with Jund.

as a side note, BLEH on 4x lotus cobra. What is that, close to 130 bucks right there?

Baneslayer Angel - $35ea - 105
Lotus Cobra - $30ea - 120
Fetchlands - $16ea - 128
M10 Duals - $12ea - 96

To play that 16th place list with 4x Lotus Cobra, 3x Baneslayer Anel, 8x Fetchlands, and 8x M10 Duals thats $120 + $105 + $128 + $96 = $450

Compare that to the 13th Place guy who spent $160 by playing a less expensive mana base and only 1 Baneslayer, and you can see the big divide between what players can actually afford to play.

Also note, the 13th and 16th place decks are actually quite similar to each other and fairly different, creaturewise from the 12th place decks. One of them just has more Baneslayers, but otherwise they are very close. This just proves there is more than one creature strategy that works for this deck.

Really really like these decks. I think they're the only ones out there that are going to be able to keep up with red-based aggro. Looks like the new format's going to have a hell of a lot of Aggro in it. Joy.

Here is another take on Naya Aggro from the LCQ in Austin

Apprentice Download OCTGN Download MTGO Download
Naya Aggro, Brian Hart, LCQ PT: Austin, 5th Place
Creatures - 25
4x Wild Nacatl
4x Steppe Lynx
4x Goblin Guide
4x Wooly Thoctar
3x Knight of the Reliquary
4x Bloodbraid Elf
2x Ranger of Eos

Spells - 12
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Path to Exile
3x Maelstrom Pulse
1x Ajani Vengeant
Lands - 23
2x Jungle Shrine
4x Arid Mesa
3x Terramorphic Expanse
3x Vedant Catacombs
2x Marsh Flats
3x Plains
3x Mountain
2x Forest
1x Swamp
Sideboard - 15
3x Celestial Purge
3x White Knight
3x Dauntless Escort
3x Volcanic Fallout
2x Pithing Needle
1x Behemoth Sledge

This deck is interesting because it runs a full 12 one-drops, doesn't run Baneslayer Angel or Naya Charm, and it sneaks in a black splash for Maelstrom Pulse. It also doesn't run Scute Mob as a Ranger of Eos target.
