What the heck is that?

Just like the title says, you all get to try and figure out what the item is.

First up... What the heck is this?

Glad this is back! Thanks Shenron.

That's a repeating air rifle - the very Beeman Girandoni that Lewis and Clark took with them on their expedition across America, apparently (currently on display, I think, at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania).

Yes, That is a Girandoni air rifle, circa 1780. It was definitely one of those "ahead of it's time" weapons because it could fire 20 rounds almost as fast as you could cock the mechanism, with comparable range and accuracy to a musket, without all the noise or black powder smoke. Pity it took over an hour to recharge the air tank.

Scores:
Jon - (Girandoni air rifle)

Now then, what the heck is this? (the thing in front of the candle)

Does it's purpose have anything to do with the flame behind it?

Is the flame from the candle supposed to either heat or burn the screen?
